How to Complaint Against Noisy Neighbors in NYC?

Do you have noisy neighbors? Do you have a NYC noise complaint? Now I am not talking about the normal noise that you would hear just because you are living in close quarters with other tenants in your rental but excessive noise. There are so many different kinds of noise that can bother you when you live in an apartment or rental because it seems that often times the walls seem to be paper thin and you can hear those above you walking across their floor or even their conversations. The problem is even worse when the floors are not carpeted and they are walking around on wood or laminate flooring. It just seems the noise radiates right into your apartment.

Do you have a neighbor that seems to play their music so loud that it vibrates your walls or floor? Does it seem that the children that live next to you or above you are constantly running around in the apartment and they seem so noisy because they are laughing, crying and screaming at each other? What about a barking dog? Does your neighbor leave their dog at home and he barks and cries because he is left alone? Do you have a neighbor that is constantly yelling at her kids or other tenants?

Physical Problems

Do all of these distractions cause you to lose sleep, or make it hard for you to concentrate or is it even possibly starting to effect your health? It has been said that when the noise level is so elevated that it could possible raise your blood pressure or even cause changes to the rhythm of your heart. It has been said that our physical responses to the noise may cause great damage to your body in adults and children.

Things you have done

You have probably already tried to talk to your neighbor to ask them to please turn down their music because it is making it hard for you to sleep at night and you have to get up early in the morning for work and you would be grateful if they could turn the music down a little. I’m sure you have told the neighbors that their dog is barking and causing problems when they leave him home alone. I am sure that you have tactfully tried to explain to the neighbors that when the children are running around it is really very noisy in your apartment and would appreciate if they try to have them do things that are more quiet when you are home. You have probably talked with the landlord about your noise complaint but he doesn’t seem to be able to help or care about the situation. I’m sure that you have documented the times that your peace has been disturbed. Because your landlord is responsible for your peace and quiet, then this may be a breach of your lease agreement.

Because you don’t want to yell or insult other people, you are still trying to find a way to get some relieve from the noise that is affecting you. I’m sure that you do not want to call the police and cause even more problems with your neighbors but you need to find something to do to solve the problem.

Where can you find help?

File a complaint with the Rental Protection Agency and have them contact your landlord. You will want to have them send a certified letter and you may even want to request that the landlord reimburse you for the filing fee when you file your complaint. By filing a complaint there will be documentation on what action has been taken to try to get your landlord to resolve the issue with the noise problem. Remember your tenant rights entitle you to a peaceful and enjoyable apartment to live in. Take some action to show you are serious about the NYC noise complaint that is affecting your peace.
